Art you can feel

This week we took the kids to the Balloon Museum’s Emotion Air, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

The whole exhibition is about air: giant inflatables, light, and art you are allowed to touch. Its tagline is “Art you can feel.”

In one room, the floor, the walls and the giant balls are all painted in the same swirling stripes. Of course I kicked one, in slow motion.

Another room was dark, full of glowing inflatable creatures, striped and dotted, each with tiny eyes, all reflected in a black, mirror-like floor.

The room I loved most was white, with a giant silver balloon in the middle, covered in sticks of chalk. Every time someone pushed it, it drew on the walls. All the black scribbles in that room were the balloon’s own drawing.
